There is also a larger user community that contributes tutorials and "Max for Live" (M4L) instruments/effects for additional expansion. Live has a ton of great instruments and effects, especially if you get the "Suite" version.

The paradigm of both is a little different to that of a traditional DAW, as you typically record into "Clips" that you can then later build into your arrangement, rather than just recording linearly.
